I've Been Listing...

Whoo hoo! I actually made something to sell! Whoa, I haven't listed something here, that I've made in a long while.
I guess I've been messing around tinkering with other little projects too much... Well, I'm getting my sewing groove back and I hope to get some more fun things listed soon.

Latest Projects...

I thought I share a few of my recent projects, which are now completed.
First up, Karla's (Karla's Cottage) aunt Caroline is turning 100 years old in June. Karla wants to take 100 handmade cards to Caroline's birthday celebration and asked fellow bloggers to help. I thought it would be fun to create a card for Caroline too. I am by no means a creative card maker. This is what I came up with. I used an old hankie, vintage sheet music, some buttons, old lace, vintage seam binding, and a pretty rose die cut. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.Sydney also wanted to make a card for Caroline. For the outside of her card, she glued flowers, lace, buttons, and a vintage earring over some wallpaper. This is what she wrote on the inside... Another project was this tote I made and traded for the cutest vintage bunny pull toy ever! 3rd project to check off my list was this all white vintage chenille patchwork quilt. It's a Mother's Day gift for a lady in California. Finally, this is what I've been working on yesterday and today. My Mom let me have her suitcase set which was her college graduation gift. I love vintage suitcases! I decided to paint hers white.
I have all sorts of vintage tablecloth scraps, so I patchworked a bunch together.

I then used Mod Podge and applied the panel to the side of the suitcase. Next I trimmed all around the edges with an exacto knife and painted another layer of Mod Podge over the entire panel.
Here it is all done!
The girls want to use it when we go to Disneyland in June. I'm thinking it will just look so cute on display in the couch room...

Show & Tell Friday

Show and Tell
I've missed a couple weeks of Kelli's Show & Tell Friday. Even though I'm really late, I have something I wanted to share today.
My friend Cheryl sent me a flat rate box full, stuffed, I'm talking totally jammed packed with some amazing trreasures!
Probably, one of the coolest things I've ever received, she included in the box. It is an autograph book from the 1880's. I was speechless when I opened it up! The specs were another item she put in the box too. I think they look so great together!
I'm enjoying reading through all the inscriptions. Jennie Clark who was the original owner of the book received some wonderful words from her friends.
This one says" Miss Jennie- To see you is to love you And love but you forever For nature made you what you are And never made such another." Your friend Rhett
This one is so sweet too. It says, "To Jennie dear. May all happiness on thee attend. May you never want nor lose a friend. May you have all you desire. And win the boy you most admire. Lovingly Ella May
I was blown away with this pencil drawing of an open book with beautiful detailed flowers all around it. The inscription reads, "If there's any sunshine Let your spirit find it, Let the bygone darkness go, and never mind it. May 4, 1885 Reese Davidson"
One other writing in the book says, "Dear Jennie, Never be ashamed of your love of home and the dear ones there; it will be your surest safeguard from the evil influences of the world, with which you may come in contact." Columbus Ga Nov 2,1884
**********
Here is an overall picture of all the items Cheryl packed into the box she sent me. Everything she gave me is marvelous. Check out all the old old books too!
Cheryl sells great stuff all the time which you can find here.
Thanks for stoping by!
Please check out Kelli's house for the links to the other show & tell players.
Have a great weekend!

May Day

Happy May Day!!!
Sydney's teachers asked all parents to bring in flowers from our yards so the kids could fill baskets today. I'll tell ya, it's slim pickin's in our yard right now! All I have blooming is a few Camellia trees, so that's what we brought. We're still waiting for a little Spring warmth around here. Overall, the kids ended up with a pretty nice assortment of flowers for filling their baskets.
When I was a kid, I loved making May Day baskets for my neighbors in the cul-de-sac. It was so fun just to ring the doorbell and run!

Remember When?

Do you remember back when a photographer would go door to door offering to take pictures of a child on a pony? My Mom has the cutest picture of her taken in the early 40's on one of those ponies. I've always loved that picture of her. Hmmm... she better watchout, cause it may just end up at my house one of these days... hehe
For the last 3 years Sydney has had her picture taken on a pony too. Our preschool arranges for ponies to come to the school for rides and pictures. The kids really love it!
Here is Sydney posing with Simba the pony.
If you ask her what her favorite part about the ponies are, she'll tell you how funny they are when they scratch their fannies on the chainlink fence. It doesn't take much to amuse a 5 year old. :o)
It's been fun having these pictures taken for the last 3 years. It's blows me away how much she's changed in that time. My babe is growing up so fast...

Friday Finds

I had way to much on my "to do list" Friday so, I really shouldn't have looked on Craigslist to see if there were any estate sales happening.
Well... I looked... and I found one that sounded so good, I just couldn't pass it up! I made a call to my Mom to see if the girls could come and hang out with her for a bit. Thankfully, she was available. It was so nice to be able to focus on treasure hunting all by myself.
This was one of those sales that is so fun! The home was packed and everything was in beautiful condition. I spent a couple hours gathering up some wonderful things I love.
You wouldn't believe the amount of aprons this lady had. I'm sure there were well over 100 and all types too. I found 4 that I couldn't pass up. Two of them have Hardanger embroidery on the bottom which is so exquisite!
There were so many beautiful linens all with some type of handwork on them. I bought a few handtowels and pot holders. Some of the other things I found were: an old yellow hat box, hankies, vintage nut cups, pink floral hat, German berry bowl, Dresden lace figurine, old piano music books, lots of metal flower frogs, glass bottles, vintage pink gloves, tablerunner, and old hose sprayers.
This pink hat is packed with fantastic old millinery flowers. The big rose on the front is the best!
Here is a close-up of the figurine. I just love her! It's really hard to find these without broken lace.
Some of the metal frogs I got are very little, only measuring 5/8". I haven't seen any this small before. They are so perfect for holding things like this very small rose card.
Even though, I'm still trying to catch up on the projects I didn't get to on Friday, I'm glad I went to the sale!
