Lemon Torte Dessert

We had another bridal shower at our church this week and it was my turn to do dessert.
This recipe is a long time favorite of our family. It's probably the most requested dessert when we have get togethers.
Here's how you make it......
Crust: Mix as for pie crust 2 Tbsp sugar, 1 1/2 cubes butter, 1 1/2 Cups flour. Pat into the bottom of a 9X13 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.
In a double boiler cook until thick, 6 egg yolks, 3/4 Cup sugar, 1/4 Cup lemon juice. Add 1 package unflavored gelatin that has been soaked in 2/3 Cup water to the cooked mixture.
Beat 6 egg whites, 3/4 Cup sugar, 1/8 tsp salt until stiff.
When cooked mixture is slightly cool, fold in the stiff egg white mixture.
Pour over crust and refrigerate overnight.
Before serving, spread sweetened whipped cream over the entire dessert.
Cut into squares and enjoy!
It's a very refreshing light and airy dessert. Great for a luncheon or tea party!

PS The lemon torte looks yummy!
