Bin Diving?

Have you ever been dumpster diving? I have not, but what we did the other day is probably the closest I've ever been...
Due to the fact that we were pretty much homebound during Christmas break because of all the snow, I was dying to get out to do some thriftin' once the roads cleared up. I wanted to go downtown and check out the GW outlet because I've never been. I called up my mom to see if she was game and we were off.
This is what it looked like as we walked in. Rows and rows of blue bins, full of junk!
Sydney and Daphne jumped right in. I was intimidated at first but ended up digging through the piles and thinking how thankful I was to have antibacterial wipes to use when I was done!
Overall it was a fun adventure, even though I didn't find anything spectacular. I'm sure, great treasures are to be found if you frequent the outlet often.
Here's the pile of junk I came home with.
See the cute rubber boots? I'm going to plant them with tulips and put 'em on our front steps.
Most of what I found will be used for my crafting.

I have never been sumpster diving. I have stopped on the side of the road to pick up an ice chest that was lost. Cute rubber boots. Have a great day.

I shop a GW bin store in my area. I don't even shop the regular GW stores any more, just the bins. The bins turn over all day long so you get fresh merchandise constantly.

Just curious if yours is by the item, or the pound. How much did your little pile of junk cost if you don't mind answering. My store sells by the item and just estimating that pile would have run around $10-$12.

I did not know there was such a thing as a Goodwill Outlet. I want to go there! I am embarassed to admit that I have been dumpster diving. There was a dumpster where people who lived nearby could put their trash. My mom used to have a gas station and she would watch people to see what they put in the dumpster. If it was something she thought might be a "goodie" she would sometimes ask me to go along!

Once I saw a television programme on the BBC which is called 'cash in the attic', where they search your house to find stuff to sell in order to buy : a wedding, a vacation, a party, a piano...I made my point I guess. Once they were at the home of some one who used to collect garbage and you don't want to know what people throw away! He had about 40 or so medals, gold and silver, found in the bin! Antique clocks, you name it. Mmmm perhaps I should be looking for a new job this year! Such a bin store is always good. You come in and you think it's disappointing, but when you are digging there will always be some treasures. You did some amazing finds, I like the flashcards too!

Hi ! I just found your blog through Sharon at roseofsharonmay and oh I am so glad I did ! And I am so happy to see the 'Pound' in your post :) If it's the one I'm thinking of, I've been there once - most mostly frequent them in my home state of Oregon. they are so much fun with so many treasures to be found. you do have to go with a great mind set and be willing to dig, but that's half the fun. My husband joined me once, and that was it for him. he doesn't know what he's missing ! well, I'd better toodle for now - so nice to 'meet' you. Have a great evening. jill (jillsibbald.typepad.com)
