You Would Have Too, Right?

Yesterday morning, on our routine drive to school, something out of the ordinary caught my eye.
There it was, in all its scrolly glory, poking out of someones garbage bin.
(GASP!) Can you believe it?

On our way back after dropping Sydney off, I did a real slow drive-by. I had to confirm what I'd seen - Yeah, I wasn't dreaming!
So many thoughts ran through my head...
I felt like I needed to save it from its ultimate demise yet, I've never dumpster dived. I didn't know if it was a good thing to do here since I drive by nearly everyday, (sheesh) someone I know might see me!
Well, I left the scene empty handed...
For 30 minutes back at home, I hemmed and hawed until I couldn't take it anymore.
I had my speech all prepared as I knocked on the homeowner's door, surely they wouldn't mind a stranger asking to dig through their trash. Wasn't I brave? Ha!
Alas, there was no answer at the door - hmph!
Completely bummed, nevertheless I convinced myself in the 3 second walk back to my car, that it was probably OK to steal rescue it from their trash bin.
SO I DID!

My only regret...
I didn't dive deeper. I bet all the crystal prisms were in there too.
I guess there's always a next time...

Great find! I used to feel timid about picking through someone elses trash but I'm not anymore. I feel like I am rescuing a treasure, recycling, and best of all IT WAS FREE!

Glad you were able to save it! It shoudl never have been trashed at all... Why didn't they donate it to a charity shop if they didn't want it anymore? We don't want things like that in the landfill!

oooohhh, what a find! I always feel a little strange trash picking, sometimes wish I had a hat and sunglasses to hide behind....however, it never stops me! I would say more than 75% of my stuff came from the trash, flea market, second hand stores, or was made by creative friends...and I love it all! You would not believe some of the gorgeous things people throw away. Very sad.

Good for you! It's a lovely find! I'm sure the last owners are happy to know that someone else wanted it. I bet they guessed what happened to it if they returned before the garbage man came by :D
